DOME CONSTRUCTION

HOW A DOME IS BUILT

Our storage technology and build process will help you leverage dry bulk storage in a less expensive and more efficient way so you can have the competitive edge in material handling. A World Dome is Beyond Storage, and Into Savings. Let’s walk you through how a dome comes to life.

DEEP FOUNDATION

Domes require less deep foundation work that standard structures. If required, based on the material to be stored - we do it.

RING BEAM FOOTING

A ring beam is a continuous circular footing consisting of hundreds of meters of steel bar and concrete.

STAGING

Staging involves placing all the steel material and equipment needed to build the dome inside the Ring Beam.

DOMESKIN INFLATION

Air compressors pump air into the sealed membrane structure and eliminates the need for building waste such as shoring and scaffolding.

SCANNING

LiDar scanning of the inflated DomeSkin guarantees high levels of accuracy, identifying surface variations before moving forward

POLYURETHANE FOAM

This insulated foam layer establishes a working surface for the attachment of reinforcement steel and a bonding surface for the application of the shotcrete process.

REBAR PLACEMENT

Reinforcement steel is installed layer by layer to the entirety of the dome’s interior surface forming a structural skeleton made from varying rebar sizes, mostly sizes #8, #9, and #10.

INTERIOR SHOTCRETE

Each layer of reinforcing steel is embedded with concrete utilizing the shotcrete method.

APEX CONSTRUCTION

As needed, curbs, pedestals or piers are constructed at the apex to support conveyors and other equipment.

FILLING SYSTEMS

Domes are filled with either pneumatic or mechanical conveying systems.

RECLAIM SYSTEMS

The type of material being stored - granular or powdered - will determine the best-suited type of reclaim system. Gravity reclaim is optimized by the dome’s shape and small footprint.

COMPLETED DOME

A dome isn’t just a storage solution. It’s a landmark. A symbol of strength and innovation that rises above the ordinary.
